-the introduction-

he asked, you know Sardegna? in a good bright day, i can see Sardegna from my home. i saw pure joy and memories dripping from his face. sardegna, where? i asked, honestly, i had no idea. you don't know? he was perplexed. his disappointment unsettled me. i sat there regretting my lack of geographical knowledge. he pulled the google map. here here, look! sardegna, the island. just in the vision of the boy standing on the shore of tunisia. do you know yazhppanam? jaffna in english well, it was my turn. i know colombo he said and asked jaffna, where? i pulled the same map and showed him here here, look! my homeland. survived a civil war surviving war by other means. now we know where we come from.

உக்கிரமாய் வெயில் உச்சி மண்டையால் இறங்கி தொண்டைக்குழியில் சொட்டு ஈரமில்லாமல் வறட்டிவிட பள்ளிவிட்டு வரும் வழியில் பசியும் தாகமும் ஒன்றாய்க் குடலைப் புரட்டி எடுக்க- வரமாய் செம்மமஞ்சள் நிறத்தில் ஜூஸ் வாங்கி வாயாலிறக்கி தொண்டைக்குழியை நனைத்து வயிறைக் குளிர்வித்து புளிப்புச் சுவையேறி நாக்குச் சப்புக்கொட்டி கடைசித்துளியையும் உறிஞ்சி எடுக்க வெள்ளைச்சீருடையில் வந்த நினைவும் எங்கேயாவது இருந்திட்டு அப்பா வாங்கிவரும் மிரண்டா சோடாவை அடித்துப் பிடித்து அமிர்தம்போல் நினைத்து ஒவ்வொரு மிடரையும் ஐயோ முடியப் போகுதே என்று மெதுவாய்க் குடித்து கடைசிச் சொட்டையும் பொறுமையாய் போத்தலைக் கவிழ்த்துப் பிடித்து வாயிலிட்டு நாவெல்லாம் செம்மஞ்சளாக்கி இரண்டு மிடர் உனக்குக் குறைவு என்று அப்பால் நிக்கும் சோதரனை கடுப்பாக்கி நாக்கு நீட்டிப் பழித்து அவனடிப்பதற்குள் ஓடியொளித்த நினைவும் சோடாப்போத்திலை திறக்கையில் முன்னறிவிப்பின்றி நுரையெல்லாம் படையெடுத்து வெளியே தள்ளுவதுபோல கடல்தாண்டிய தேசத்து கடற்கரையில் நிகழ்ந்த சூரிய அஸ்தமனக் காட்சி நினைவுச் சுரங்கத்தின் கதவைத் திறந்து நினைவுகளை அள்ளி வெளியில் கொட்டிவிட- கண்முன் பரவிக் கி...

Tarra is the quietest one Her actions and thoughts are so quiet So deep You will know if you go and sit with her She carries herself like a wise woman If you ask She would take you to her home Let you wonder or wander Or both Once you are in You wouldn’t want to get out ever Her beautiful home Oh, heaven on earth! It is a place of tranquillity So green, so fresh! What's freedom?

We remember, we resist!

12 years since the Mullivaikal massacre on Tamil land, we are watching another genocide in Gaza helplessly. This spoken word poetry is an outcome of grief, hopelessness and frustration. Yet, there is a sense of solidarity. In that solidarity, you find your resistance too.
